Privacy
Short version: no cookies, no trackers, no ads, and nothing is shared with anyone.
What is measured
To see which posts are read, this site counts visits with Umami, an open-source analytics tool that I host myself at stats.syonfoppen.nl. For each page view it records:
- the page, and the site you came from (referrer), including campaign tags such as
utm_source; - your country, derived from your IP address at the moment of the visit;
- browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language;
- page-load performance (Core Web Vitals), and clicks on a few links such as RSS and social links;
- how far you scroll through a post, in steps of 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent.
What is not collected
- No cookies, and nothing that identifies you is stored in your browser. The script only reads an opt-out flag, if you set one.
- Your IP address is not stored. To count unique visitors, Umami keeps a one-way hash of your IP address and browser details combined with a secret salt that is replaced regularly. The hash cannot be turned back into your IP address, and visits cannot be linked to you or across salt periods.
- No fingerprinting, no advertising, no profiles, and no data sold or shared with third parties.
Do Not Track and opting out
If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, nothing is recorded at all. Blocking stats.syonfoppen.nl in your browser or content blocker also stops all measurement; the site works exactly the same without it.
Where the data lives
The statistics are stored in a database on my own server. Requests to the site and to stats.syonfoppen.nl pass through Cloudflare, which hosts and protects this site. Cloudflare handles those requests in transit to deliver them, but does not store or analyse the statistics. The statistics are only used by me, to decide what to write about.
